Successful year for multi-million pound NE Workforce Skills project

The North East Workforce Skills Programme, with a budget of £15 million, aims to enhance the skills of more than 17,500 workers in Tyne and Wear and Northumberland by September 2023, as part of efforts to promote regional development.

The University of Sunderland is the lead partner in the consortium, which will deliver the European Social Fund Programme worth £14,862,142. The trainers include Access Training Limited, MTC Training, Newcastle College Group, SETA, Code and TDR Training.

According to Tim Pain, Assistant Director, Enterprise and Innovation at the University of Sunderland, the ESF North East Workforce Skills programme has just completed its first year and the programme has gone from strength to strength.

They have engaged with more than 250 employers and supported 2,000 individuals, due to the flexibility and collaboration of the partners the ESF North East Workforce Skills programme is really supporting businesses in the North East to upskill their employees and aid progression.
